| Born in Bavaria (Germany) in 1970, Markus Mayer studied hotel and restaurant management at the University of Applied Science in Munich from 1989 to 1994. He started his rapid hospitality career as a general management trainee with Hilton in Munich in 1994 and was promoted to Assistant Finance Manager at the Dresden Hilton in 1996. As a consequence of his outstanding performance, he was selected to become a member of Hilton’s newly created fast track “Elevator Programme” in 1998. Based on a tailor made educational and practical training programme, he was intensively exposed to all hotel departments at Hilton’s landmark properties in Brussels and Paris. After the programme he was promoted Front Desk Manager and later Yield Manager at the Hilton Paris, one of Hilton’s most profitable properties. After the tragic events of 09/11 he was promoted Cluster Yield Manager for almost 1.000 rooms at both Munich Hilton properties in an extremely challenging market environment. Following a successful reconfiguration of the business mix and the improvement of market shares, he was promoted General Manager at the Hilton Nuremberg at age 32. Markus Mayer turned around the aging Ex-Holiday Inn property via a series of interlinked revenue, renovation and cost management programmes. Market share increased despite two new competitors, guest and employee satisfaction soared well above European averages and challenging profit targets were met. After kicking of a series of similar initiatives at the Hilton Bremen in 2006, Markus Mayer decided to broaden and re-design his career via an Executive MBA at the Henley Business School (ranked 10 worldwide in 2007 Economist review). He seized on the unique opportunity to advice a Bavarian company with multiple budget hotel projects in Moscow end 2006 and launched into the hotel consulting discipline in one of the most challenging and attractive hotel markets in the world. After permanently moving to Moscow in summer 2007, he set up his own Russian limited company “M SQUARE Hospitality OOO”. The company initially focused on structuring the critical “early stage” processes for local developers together with a group of selected partner companies and individuals. Operating in a highly immature hotel market, “M SQUARE” started to offer classic hotel asset management (HAM) services to private or institutional properties owners in Russia and CIS, focusing on owner representation and permanent performance improvement. Hotel investors in Russia are facing numerous challenges like outdated and inefficient hotel concepts as well as poorly negotiated and executed management agreements. Based on his personal experience with an international hotel company, his highly developed analytical and strategic skills and his unique blend of revenue, operations, finance and renovations experience, Markus Mayer feels ideally suited to defend owner’s interests regarding investment strategies or to challenge an operator’s performance. Markus Mayer is both proud and excited to offer these services under the umbrella of “Global Asset Solution”, the leading hotel asset management company in the Middle East and Asia as of early 2009. The cooperation further strengthens both companies’ existing network of experts, increases the resources for ever more complex assignments and adds significant value to existing and future clients. |
